Argentina court orders removal of Polymarket from app stores

The Buenos Aires court has instructed app stores to remove the Polymarket mobile application from distribution in Argentina.

Court order and app removals

Google and Apple received formal orders to delete the service’s mobile app from their Argentine storefronts and prevent local access.

Prosecutors’ findings

Prosecutors concluded that the platform functioned as a hidden online betting system and lacked adequate user verification processes.

Investigators noted that accounts could be created within minutes without age or identity checks, enabling potential access to betting contracts by minors.

Authorities also pointed to the use of cryptocurrencies for transactions, which investigators said allowed circumvention of the regulatory controls applicable to the gambling sector.

Previous restrictions in Europe

Access to Polymarket has earlier been limited in several European jurisdictions, including Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany and Romania.

The latest judicial measure in Argentina is part of broader regulatory scrutiny over platforms offering prediction markets and similar services without conventional licensing or oversight.
