An FBI counterintelligence special agent admitted stealing about $1,000,000 in cryptocurrency from wallets tied to a hostile state.

Allegations and transfers

According to the account, Patrick Yarok located seed phrases in internal systems and transferred assets to his own addresses between 10–12 occasions.

He told investigators he was displeased that the bureau did not block the accounts and therefore decided to take action himself.

• Some proceeds were moved to Kraken exchange.
• $1.02 million was sent, by his account, into the DeFi protocol Suilend through an intermediary named Slush.
• Yarok said one motive for that specific transfer was a preference for the protocol's water-drop logo.

Investigation and recovery

The matter did not begin with blockchain tracing; on 28 July Yarok contacted a former Department of Justice colleague and the following day personally surrendered at FBI headquarters.

Authorities executed a warrant and seized cryptocurrency valued at $925,426 from his control, according to available information.
