Crypto investor loses nearly $25 million for second time
On 12 August, funds from two wallets tied to a single user were moved to a new address, totaling about $25 million.
Incident details
The transferred assets included DAI, WBTC, aUSDC, LDO, sUSDe and ETH, according to on-chain traces reported by Scam Sniffer.
Scam Sniffer suggests the user's private key may have been compromised, though this assessment has not been independently confirmed by law enforcement.
Within an hour, attackers swapped most holdings into stablecoins and ether, primarily converting assets into DAI and ETH.
Linked addresses now show about $20 million in DAI and roughly 3000 ETH remaining on public ledgers.
History and community reactions
The same user reportedly lost approximately $24 million in September 2023 after a phishing transaction, according to historical on-chain records.
Following the earlier incident, some participants on X suggested the wallets might have been involved in laundering, because attackers allegedly returned about 90% of the funds to the owner.
Claims about the victim
One X user claimed personal acquaintance with the affected individual, describing them as a crypto investor older than 60 who mined bitcoin in 2010.
The same claim stated the person’s net worth is valued at several hundred million dollars; that assertion has not been independently verified.
Status and open questions
Investigators and community analysts continue to monitor the addresses for potential cash-out routes and interactions with mixing services or centralized exchanges.
No official recovery has been reported and no public statements from law enforcement are available; on-chain monitoring remains the primary information source.
