Ledger finds no spy modules in Germany, caveat remains

Ledger reported that its Donjon security team inspected devices from German retail and distributor inventories and found no signs of tampering.

Scope of the inspection

The Donjon team reviewed units taken from stock at several German stores and distributors, including items referenced in the original complaint.

According to the company statement, investigators did not detect any evidence of physical interference or implanted electronic modules during their analyses.

Devices still awaiting examination

Ledger noted, however, that the specific devices whose photographs prompted concern have not yet been physically examined by its specialists.

The company offered the owner of those devices the option to hand them over for formal expert analysis at Ledger’s facilities.

Reports of financial losses

Ledger also stated that it is not aware of any confirmed reports of users in Europe losing funds as a result of implanted devices in hardware wallets.

The company’s communication framed the inspection results as limited to examined inventory and conditioned further conclusions on analysis of the outstanding units.

Next steps

If the owner submits the questioned devices, Ledger’s Donjon team expects to perform a forensic inspection and publish findings based on that analysis.

Until those units are assessed, Ledger’s current conclusion remains that tested stock showed no signs of tampering, while the inquiry continues.
