BNB Chain to launch new L1 network in early 2027

BNB Chain announced plans to deploy a new layer‑one network running alongside BNB Smart Chain and linked by a native bridge.

Network design and token model

The new chain will operate in parallel with BNB Smart Chain and use a native bridge for cross‑chain transfers and messaging.

There will be no separate native token: transaction fees, staking and governance functions will continue to use BNB.

Target use cases and performance

The project is aimed at on‑chain trading and payment flows, focusing on throughput and low confirmation latency for commerce applications.

Engineers set a target block time of 200 ms and aim for preliminary transaction confirmation within about 20 ms.

Timeline

A public testnet is planned to launch by 31.12.2026, with mainnet deployment scheduled for early 2027.

«Several networks, one coin»

Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, summarized the approach succinctly, emphasizing a unified monetary and governance layer across multiple chains.

BNB Chain’s announcement did not mention additional tokenomics or third‑party token launches for the new layer, keeping BNB as the single asset for protocol operations.

Details on consensus specifics, validator requirements and cross‑chain security mechanisms remain pending ahead of the public testnet milestone.
