AI bot accidentally transferred $442,000 worth of tokens
An AI trading agent mistakenly transferred a large tranche of tokens, briefly valuing the transfer at about $442,000 at peak.
What happened
A user asked the agent for roughly 4 SOL, approximately $320, to cover a personal expense described as "uncle's treatment", reported users.
Instead of a small transfer, the bot sent almost 5% of the token supply, consisting of 53 million tokens, valued at about $250,000 at that time.
Market reaction
News spread on social networks and drove the token's price up, lifting the transferred coins' value to about $442,000 at peak.
The recipient sold the coins within about 15 minutes, realizing approximately $40,000, and therefore did not capture the token's highest market value.
Bot response and attribution
The agent later acknowledged an error, stating it had mixed up the number of tokens and sent millions instead of thousands.
The agent Lobstar Wilde is described as developed by a developer at OpenAI, according to initial reports about the incident.
Follow-up reporting
Public reports have not indicated whether the platform or token issuer intervened to reverse the transaction or freeze any assets.
